May I start by apologizing for such a long absence! It has been nearly 6 months since my last blog.<br />
I have been far from idle though my bloggy friends.<br />
<br />
Firstly I went quiet as I concentrated on producing a fabulous new bag design.<br />
I hired a big beast of a machine, I cut, I planned, I sewed and I cried!<br />
It seems that to produce a bag of the level I intended you need like actually training! <br />
Who'd have thought it? Not I!<br />
<br />
This failing, or set back landed me in a bit of a funk.<br />
I adopted a little black raincloud that loomed close for the whole of January.<br />
I then picked myself up and started to stock my bags in a gallery/shop near me, which went ok, but slowly slowly.<br />
The problem was that it only covered a tiny bit of me, I needed something more solid, more, me.<br />
<br />
It was around this time I was forced to look way way deep into my person, and at my stash and my sewing room and reach a new and productive phase.<br />
<br />
After that process begin life speeded up, so much so it became a blur of empty shops, bank managers, business plans and grant applications.<br />
<br />
Which brings me to where I am today.<br />
<br />
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my shop, <a href="http://margodoesvintage.co.uk/">Margo</a><br />
I have a <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/Margoboutique">twitter</a> and a <a href="http://www.facebook.com/people/Margo-DoesVintage/100002383477474">facebook</a> account, I'd love to see you there.<br />
Have a look, see if any of your wonderful things would look good in the shop, and we can chat about getting you stocked.<br />
I hope your all well & now that everything is starting to calm down I may even get to read and even comment on your blogs again!<br />

<br />

Oh and I banked some money into my business account yesterday! <br />
I felt like a millionaire until I got a bill for more than I just paid in.<br />
Ho hum. Ricky's bags are rocking though!<br />

The snow has now stopped, and instead we have had a couple of days of freezing fog which has made the trees look like they are in full bloom, but with ice.<br />
Choomia is sick again, in bed with a temperature, so no work related post today, have a look at this lovely photo's instead.<br />

I am loving this girls work, and she is super generous, with almost all of these images available to download for free as wallpaper, backgrounds and iphone screens!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I first found her via Spoonflower,<br />
in fact I am about to buy the pattern above for my prototype bag.</div><br />

November has been a pretty non sort of month. I had spent so long blogging last month that I didn't seem to create on the same level as previously, and so I haven't had much to say.<br />
<br />
The pause in my blogging was in no way reflected in my day to day life.<br />
Life as they say, goes on.<br />
I made plenty of changes though, lots of decisions, lots of baby steps forward towards my goals.<br />
<br />
In February I have signed up to present to<a href="http://www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/content/best-of-british/newsarchive"> Liberty of London</a> open design call.<br />
<br />
This has also meant I have had to hire one of these scary looking beasts:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJK7XJB1mG3d8k0SnvcW1scFwq9zSjwDyK-jjMih7xs-_-pBCyXQVh5AqG-aZVFQ3pojLpgRmtJ3yNLng9m5k0EIbbomGKkNQjaHfL_8rgCiHsLvzsiVJzm3F5yZTez0PUC0hCVjyu6rI/s1600/cylinder+arm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJK7XJB1mG3d8k0SnvcW1scFwq9zSjwDyK-jjMih7xs-_-pBCyXQVh5AqG-aZVFQ3pojLpgRmtJ3yNLng9m5k0EIbbomGKkNQjaHfL_8rgCiHsLvzsiVJzm3F5yZTez0PUC0hCVjyu6rI/s320/cylinder+arm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
That is not my beast, mine is yet to arrive, hopefully it will happen this week as time is running out to complete the prototypes.<br />
<br />
To make way for this beauty I have had to be brutal about my creative space and focus on one design, one medium. This has meant a huge clear out of the womb.<br />
<br />

Whilst I have not posted, I have still been keeping up with y'all, behind the scenes.<br />
I think perhaps I have been suffering a little from blogtoberfest burn out, or if not burn out, clean out,<br />
of anything useful I had to say!<br />
<br />
I have been busy, all the time, but nothing is complete.<br />
I have mostly been working on a new bag design which is complicated, structured and unlike anything else I have ever attempted before. <br />
I cannot share this with you until February, for reasons I cannot reveal until February, but in February you will know all. <br />
<br />
In the meantime, have a look at my sewing machines and my inspiration wall ( I don't know why, just to prove I am thinking & working)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghzMzluk6en_WTwKnN5XSzy_TiLNCsHxU7-XxpSw-bGnw6fb6Lq5jACAm7XDbBhIi7k4OjuUrGXm6zZLM8hQ9kPNc0bhTATv4-T2xcGv2SI-7jIka6rHZ3Qt7_NB0FG6k_q_jze8zjsrw/s1600/009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghzMzluk6en_WTwKnN5XSzy_TiLNCsHxU7-XxpSw-bGnw6fb6Lq5jACAm7XDbBhIi7k4OjuUrGXm6zZLM8hQ9kPNc0bhTATv4-T2xcGv2SI-7jIka6rHZ3Qt7_NB0FG6k_q_jze8zjsrw/s320/009.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I also started on a new dress, which as ever means I have to re-size and alter the pattern to fit my, shall we say curvaceous frame.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGJNuEVf7_JT4TqidKwickAQ4JVqC3Ho88m3HauNMlK123BC6K7347cvfLwXaeT3y0ccEKtCOdiOAXeX2O3E3vH2S2q6AbpzD3OxH64qXZTznTG3jKG4dmld7JyYW_SrpDK81scZB3U9U/s1600/007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGJNuEVf7_JT4TqidKwickAQ4JVqC3Ho88m3HauNMlK123BC6K7347cvfLwXaeT3y0ccEKtCOdiOAXeX2O3E3vH2S2q6AbpzD3OxH64qXZTznTG3jKG4dmld7JyYW_SrpDK81scZB3U9U/s320/007.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><br />

Couple of tips for you:</div><br />
1. after you have cut out your pattern pieces Iron them, on a low heat, without the steam on.<br />
2. hang them up on a trouser hanger with a note telling you about your pattern pieces.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsEQitOdHPgUdkxXOm3xBH7-yidKQUid93BxhajHhwhOOSrb_ViPBry93_IMP5MdKnLgrU6u0mcQ6EAhukQYSpT27CFZNkcEAzK8obiu0UErAgKePmOtNSUa2aYdA2PeHzRMDBDYwtwIY/s1600/015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsEQitOdHPgUdkxXOm3xBH7-yidKQUid93BxhajHhwhOOSrb_ViPBry93_IMP5MdKnLgrU6u0mcQ6EAhukQYSpT27CFZNkcEAzK8obiu0UErAgKePmOtNSUa2aYdA2PeHzRMDBDYwtwIY/s320/015.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I would tell you more, but I don't think that my way of altering patterns is the actual way of altering patterns, so I will show you my fabric choices instead:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgin2V12y9Dqc-5NR3dCuJWmKsYiiQK5sJU42viydcUDUR5uzEneZVuJQK-IGuSApzvojCEFLA4bhX8mOMcZdFA7Pb4lmJMtJltQ_Hzgg3FzSf-w1VWot4_rKR6MAEi4FtatoeoSVhW60o/s1600/008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgin2V12y9Dqc-5NR3dCuJWmKsYiiQK5sJU42viydcUDUR5uzEneZVuJQK-IGuSApzvojCEFLA4bhX8mOMcZdFA7Pb4lmJMtJltQ_Hzgg3FzSf-w1VWot4_rKR6MAEi4FtatoeoSVhW60o/s320/008.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Grey wool mix (only £3.50pm) and some lovely Crepe de chine for the lining </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiVmUzUeDLOhE22WrwCt1z-66hNusct1XVZv0QeHvA5y_e9ym9x5STR17sqzMLjrS0kTMD6WbOVBjQIrUkk0JU3nxs5hUxtMBX5dbMpZxolbBXva5FVwMCMqv7RtXkr2GU4ebhKv5nSAY/s1600/004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiVmUzUeDLOhE22WrwCt1z-66hNusct1XVZv0QeHvA5y_e9ym9x5STR17sqzMLjrS0kTMD6WbOVBjQIrUkk0JU3nxs5hUxtMBX5dbMpZxolbBXva5FVwMCMqv7RtXkr2GU4ebhKv5nSAY/s320/004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I have also been battling on with pottery, attempting to finish one job before moving onto another. There is nothing worse than having to spend a whole night glazing or slipping (cos its boring) so this term I am keeping on top of it.<br />
This means not much to look at though, I did make another Margo Vase and another egg cup & plate.<br />
The grey stuff is slipped (in white) and the wet brown stuff is the new efforts:<br />

Oh one last thing, I have added a photo of me over on my about me page so you can put a face to the words. I guess it makes it more real!<br />
<br />
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!<br />

Without further ado, the winner is:<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Congratulations to the lovely Gill who said <i>"I'd like to see more craft books aimed at the intermediate sewer! the novice and the advanced seem far better catered for!"</i> <br />
<br />
Everyone had very good suggestions and wish lists for what sort of book they would like, so I thought I would make some suggestions.<br />
<br />
Sparrow Primitives, Gill, Peach Rainbow, Paula, Quilary and Pippirose all wanted books that showed you how to alter patterns and draft your own patterns<i>.<br />
</i><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PYLKpRtF3KN_3VB0iz0oianYusKqb2U8r_S2BO5exoJTdFeeCQ1SkdlUmsrOZPxJRl0VzVOSe84zTQKVks9Opdxhk-gsAeQo4juHX5xhbojnuqFlnqvTTOk4WzhBKrYoE9ar7G-OtSw/s1600/sewing+patterns.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PYLKpRtF3KN_3VB0iz0oianYusKqb2U8r_S2BO5exoJTdFeeCQ1SkdlUmsrOZPxJRl0VzVOSe84zTQKVks9Opdxhk-gsAeQo4juHX5xhbojnuqFlnqvTTOk4WzhBKrYoE9ar7G-OtSw/s200/sewing+patterns.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Adapt-Design-Sewing-Patterns/dp/1408120003/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289037952&sr=8-1">Buy the book</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
I think this is a good book to start with. I have found it is easier to adapt patterns before making your own, and this book seems like the perfect way to start learning.<br />
If like me and Vintage mum you are wanting to make plus size clothing, alteration is key! It is so much easier than you think, start with something simple and in no time you will have the whole spectrum of patterns open to you!</div><div style="text-align: left;">However if like Gill you have already reached this stage maybe its time for this book:</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

There is also an excellent collection of books by Wendy Mullin on making your own clothes that is very easy to follow such as:<br />

Jennifer said <i>"The craft book I would like to see published (but may already exist) is one on sewing knits with a "normal" machine. I'm assuming it can be done with a regular machine. The book needs to be picture heavy with explanations following each picture" <br />

He wanted them to be one piece.<br />
I wasn't sure if I could throw them on the wheel in one piece as in my head I saw the egg cup to the side of the plate.<br />
This shape wasn't possible to throw in one piece, so the cup ended up in the middle. <br />
<br />
Anyway, the wonder that is Jenny Ford, my tutor popped onto the wheel and knocked out a perfect egg cup in about 3 minutes!<br />
It looked easy enough, so I went with it.<br />
<br />
This is my first attempt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpcQ5iZCe187w1PhkcwKqL-bnxQDhPLhxaXcn71nfu09v5NcQlCiYc_-Nf6TfhjsGpp3wcSIqr7d33sMjec0hdSYKxoXSjEGQMplEv6916b_O7mHXuRPab5fWpuB9aEGnBEDZkgoEm-EE/s1600/017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpcQ5iZCe187w1PhkcwKqL-bnxQDhPLhxaXcn71nfu09v5NcQlCiYc_-Nf6TfhjsGpp3wcSIqr7d33sMjec0hdSYKxoXSjEGQMplEv6916b_O7mHXuRPab5fWpuB9aEGnBEDZkgoEm-EE/s320/017.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Its a bit minimalist/boring <br />

<br />
The bag I am working on is still very much in the design phase. I am playing with various types of structure and hardware to determine what works best.<br />
<br />
Its all very exciting. For the first time I feel like a designer rather than a sewer, even though its not the first thing I have designed, this one feels different.<br />
<br />
My research has unearth some wacky little bags, so I thought, as I can't yet show you my design, I would show you some other beauty's.<br />
Most of these bags can be found here, at <a href="http://www.funkytrend.com/tag/handbags/">Handbags</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.funkytrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/facebag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://www.funkytrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/facebag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.funkytrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/red-tea-pot-bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="http://www.funkytrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/red-tea-pot-bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
<br />
<img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.funkytrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/deleon-handbag.jpg" width="236" /><br />
<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPnzSMh6nfjIhFHcHaR2EWG4-rJw3j_5tud6N4EjPU8oFWooq9aIbLbJ8-sYHqmShuUNv50qcdfZgmZvA_FQtMB0rAugEUkODVrW10wJPsufFLtAQ5QzrZbTBQ5Xfk9o-1vzdR1ydPr7U/s1600/fun-desginer-handbag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPnzSMh6nfjIhFHcHaR2EWG4-rJw3j_5tud6N4EjPU8oFWooq9aIbLbJ8-sYHqmShuUNv50qcdfZgmZvA_FQtMB0rAugEUkODVrW10wJPsufFLtAQ5QzrZbTBQ5Xfk9o-1vzdR1ydPr7U/s320/fun-desginer-handbag.jpg" width="246" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I've only just noticed they are all leather! <br />
They are so cute though!<br />
<br />
In other news, one of my babies (Kaya) is poorly sick, she is crashed out on the sofa right now, so no school tomorrow, so I doubt I'll have much to post about, unless we are talking vomit, so if there is no posting, you know why!<br />
<br />
Don't forget you still have until Midnight November 4th to join in my <a href="http://chirpychirpycheapcheap.blogspot.com/2010/10/sewing-bible.html">giveaway</a>.<br />
<br />
Take care!<br />

It's a bit like when I did stand up comedy (yes its true) and you have to write a 5 minute set, you think its easy, but 5 minutes is a long time on stage to be funny.<br />
Blogtoberfest was a bit like that, I thought it would be easy, but it wasn't!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn7rWxWDFNt4XtEs7aITrIDiwx4O9hU-6pEOYDcdT1bkQkroQsKo3po6F4msweYxxexX2pNqB_XiDjHfxoMUw5EQEKmFemDvFibieVKcB5zKW9gAPVeudeUOOMyiar2oY86mYXYuL42tc/s400/codecloud.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.wordle.net/">Wordcloud by Wordle</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn7rWxWDFNt4XtEs7aITrIDiwx4O9hU-6pEOYDcdT1bkQkroQsKo3po6F4msweYxxexX2pNqB_XiDjHfxoMUw5EQEKmFemDvFibieVKcB5zKW9gAPVeudeUOOMyiar2oY86mYXYuL42tc/s1600/codecloud.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><br />
This wordcloud contains all the comment codes I entered during blogtoberfest, I did try to make that sentence stand out within the cloud, which sort of worked! There are 263 in total!<br />
<br />
The thing that kept me going was all the other blogs taking part.<br />
I have found so many great blogs, I featured a few and I would have liked to feature more, but I didn't get replies from all the blogs I asked to introduce, and as I won't post without approve I am afraid we all missed out.<br />
But wait! The list of blogtoberfest bloggers is still up over at <a href="http://tinniegirl.blogspot.com/2010/09/your-journey-starts-here-blogtoberfest.html">Tinniegirl</a> and you can visit them at your leisure, and if you happen to be one of those blogs that I wrote to to introduce, just contact me and I will honour that request!<br />
Oh and <a href="http://tinniegirl.blogspot.com/">Tinniegirl</a> - Doh! I thought I was following and I wasn't , so now I am!<br />
<br />
I am also happily embarrassed to tell you that <a href="http://missymaomao.blogspot.com/">Missy Mao Mao</a> has written a post practically all about me and my blog!<br />
This is a total honour.<br />
<a href="http://missymaomao.blogspot.com/">Missy Mao Mao</a> (AKA Marilyn) is an excellent artist designer from Australia.<br />
She makes the most wonderful bags too. <br />
I am in awe of her work which you can <a href="http://www.wix.com/missymaomao/missymaomao-">drool over</a> and <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/missymaomao?ref=seller_info">buy here</a>!<br />
Marilyn has also started a <a href="http://missymaomao.blogspot.com/2010/10/very-last-day-to-have-my-say.html">new giveaway</a> in which you can win one of her super cosmetic bags, so please do go and spend some time on her<a href="http://missymaomao.blogspot.com/"> lovely blog</a> :) <br />
<br />

Thanks also to all the amazing artists I have had the pleasure to featuring in <a href="http://chirpychirpycheapcheap.blogspot.com/search/label/Spotlight">artist spotlight</a>.<br />
<br />
I am going to try and take a couple of days off blogging this week, try and wean myself off daily posting, which I have a feeling is going to be a little bit hard!<br />
I have learnt so much this month , its been very enlightening!<br />
<br />
I leave you with my <a href="http://chirpychirpycheapcheap.blogspot.com/2010/10/sewing-bible.html">super giveaway</a>, which you can enter until midnight on 5th November.<br />
<br />
Thank you all again & a very merry Halloween to you all!<br />

It is a great resource of all the techniques you wanted to know, but felt silly asking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA7XgdNmEJ2tx7DBPhW2l1pPgbiMBn42cIyIIq3yQZErphfYx728_lh3LY2Osurd6NvAf0h4daQlehBqQs8fAoO3itdQaMTbQ-Yx7LNVeaV6swjivBXusyuVfakS4MwSIVp7yFvTfVbyk/s1600/sewing-bible-the-ultimate-resource-of-techniques-projects-and-inspiration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA7XgdNmEJ2tx7DBPhW2l1pPgbiMBn42cIyIIq3yQZErphfYx728_lh3LY2Osurd6NvAf0h4daQlehBqQs8fAoO3itdQaMTbQ-Yx7LNVeaV6swjivBXusyuVfakS4MwSIVp7yFvTfVbyk/s400/sewing-bible-the-ultimate-resource-of-techniques-projects-and-inspiration.jpg" width="303" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Lets be straight, its not the only book you can buy that offers this sort of advice, but in my opinion it is more inspiring than you basic how to manuals.<br />
<br />
This is because each skill is shown in terms of its practical use and it is explained in a way that actually works.<br />
<div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">You know you look at some instructions and you have to turn the page 45° and then back again, and then have a quick look on the net for clearer answers before walking away and having a cry?</div><div class="MsoNormal">Well there's none of that non sense here! <br />
It's like being guided by your favourite aunt, all that's missing is the tea and cake, but you get my drift.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Throughout the book there are photos of outfits you can buy as patterns and sew using the techniques inside, so you can apply the theory to the practical, using the same pattern.</div><div class="MsoNormal">This is the only downside. </div><div class="MsoNormal">I wanted to make up something, I was inspired, but the book didn't include any patterns, just pictures of them.<br />
It has links to the patterns, it has a resource page, in fact it has a great resource page, but I would have liked a pattern or at least a discount to a pattern. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The glossary section is also very good, combining trouble shooting tips, types of fabric, terms, stitches, blimey! loads of stuff, its like the blaggers guide to sewing! </div><div class="MsoNormal">You could stand your own at the WI if you only memorized the glossary!<br />
<br />
The other nice thing was the clothing explanations, the top ten dress styles was particularly useful, explaining ten types of dresses, the best types of fabric to use to get the best results and the level of skill needed for each.</div><div class="MsoNormal">Wendy does this for jackets, Trousers, skirts, tops and blouses.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">There were times when I felt that it was a branding exercise, apart from the usual Janome machine, which all sewing technique books seem to have, there were lots of pictures of well know makes, blurred but obvious and that was a bit annoying, but then if I didn't know who made the best scissors, or the best thread I would be grateful for the tip off, so I am probably just being a bit anal, but I still think if the brands get a good deal, then you, the reader should get one too.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">On that point, I contacted the publishers <a href="http://www.davidandcharles.co.uk/about.asp">David & Charles</a> and asked for a copy to review and giveaway, and they were nice enough to say yes!</div><div class="MsoNormal">I am going to match this niceness and I am going to add one of the patterns to the giveaway, this lovely dress:<br />
<br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4072/4374971327_144e23a217_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4072/4374971327_144e23a217_o.jpg" width="310" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
New Look 6799</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">I found this image on a great site called <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/">Pattern Review.com</a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

I joined in with Christina from <a href="http://afewscraps.blogspot.com/">A few Scraps</a> when she started her <a href="http://afewscraps.blogspot.com/p/free-motion-quilting.html">Free Motion Quilt Along</a> as I had inherited lots of quilting books from my mum who no longer quilts.<br />
<br />
My mum is brilliant at so many things, and quilting is no exception.<br />
I could have saved myself some shame if only I'd taken it in when she said <i>" you can have these books, I don't have the patience anymore."</i><br />
<br />
The point of the quilt along was to remove the fear so many of us have of free motion and quilting in general.<br />
Christina's tutorials were broken down into easy to follow segments that made the whole process easy to understand, fully accessible and fear free.<br />
<br />
You can see my practice run by clicking here :<a href="http://www.blogger.com/goog_589692470"> </a><a href="http://chirpychirpycheapcheap.blogspot.com/2010/09/what-shambles.html">Shambles!</a><br />
<br />
I hadn't played for a while as my machine was busy doing other things, but I managed to get a little session in this week and made a mini quilt? Maybe? <br />
Its not the best, especially on the back, but it is definitely an improvement.<br />
I even added some binding to the edges!<br />
I made it with two fat quarter pieces and some wadding and to add interest I used some of that fancy YLI thread.<br />
<br />
It has been hard to get a true colour match in photographs, but I've had a go, which seems to be the whole empathize on this piece!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoLrIl-XbNINacvWphEEX65Sy-co6VEKX_FQGwynPAjFxtz1aBgTF3SKOd6n7TYuso6HveTfqma0nFCP5N7-ZaMrHm9PQzsCRkVmvo2832_Lhy26ExPpOfTB-T_T0fH88pV4bZijhpZqc/s1600/add.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoLrIl-XbNINacvWphEEX65Sy-co6VEKX_FQGwynPAjFxtz1aBgTF3SKOd6n7TYuso6HveTfqma0nFCP5N7-ZaMrHm9PQzsCRkVmvo2832_Lhy26ExPpOfTB-T_T0fH88pV4bZijhpZqc/s320/add.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">The pattern is completely random, swirly, loopy non sense</div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">and I tried to sign and date it</div><br />
It is now a much loved dolly blanket.<br />
<br />
I probably shouldn't be, but I am a tiny bit proud! <br />
I am not sure if I have the patience to ever produce something truly beautiful, but it is fun.<br />
I don't think I will show my mum though!<br />
<br />
If you wanted to have a go yourself, <a href="http://afewscraps.blogspot.com/p/free-motion-quilting.html">join in anytime here</a>, you will find Christina very helpful if you have problems.<br />

I would like to produce some fabric and so I have been looking at books to help me.<br />
I am so pleased with my finds that I thought you might be interested to know what I have learnt.<br />
<br />
The first book I bought is <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Printing-Hand-Handmade-Stencils-Screens/dp/1584796723/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1287838384&sr=1-1">Printing by hand by Lena Corwin<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">This beautiful spiral bound book is a pleasure to read.</div><div style="text-align: left;">The instructions are easy to follow and the projects are inspiring.<br />
Lena starts by covering equipment needs and the types of surfaces you can print on and with what medium.</div><div style="text-align: left;">There are then four other chapters covering stamping, stenciling and screen printing, which each chapter having future dedicated sections of stunning projects for you to hone your skills in each medium.<br />
The other thing that makes this book great is that Lena has included all the patterns for each of the 18 projects found inside.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Printing by hand costs £7.50 from Amazon, worth every penny.<br />
<br />
The second book I am recommending is <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Handmade-Prints-Introduction-Creative-Printmaking/dp/0713677082/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1287840260&sr=1-1">Handmade Prints by Anne Desmet & Jim Anderson</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNWLqsE4wCNIcRjcYyMZUb_bPL4vtPTZ4UxsJqkOloIK2905NKZD-7RUhj3fcbJcpe0nfvoOFJGZ6GQvfcrXHMtCJrCiD7V-WPS-e99FMEo_7kXWJBwm3Z40C7eZ8DAc6DSjgHrlrCWeE/s1600/017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNWLqsE4wCNIcRjcYyMZUb_bPL4vtPTZ4UxsJqkOloIK2905NKZD-7RUhj3fcbJcpe0nfvoOFJGZ6GQvfcrXHMtCJrCiD7V-WPS-e99FMEo_7kXWJBwm3Z40C7eZ8DAc6DSjgHrlrCWeE/s320/017.jpg" width="261" /></a></div><br />
This a very detailed book, which is pretty hard to find in the UK and covers every possible way you could print by hand, such as by effective, inexpensive printing blocks, glue printing & collagraphs and body printing!<br />
<br />
They offer the reader cheap solutions fro making equipment at home, such as how to build your own screen printing press. </div><div style="text-align: left;">There is even a list of suppliers and a great glossary of terms, techniques & materials.<br />
I can't recommend this book enough, and I know that it will be a constant guide as I begin my experiments in printing.</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
I have also added a collection of other printing books to look out for on the widget below, prehaps you have a book you would like to recommend? If so, add it to my comments.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Thanks,</div><div style="text-align: left;">Bonnie</div><div style="text-align: left;">:) </div><script charset="utf-8" src="http://ws.amazon.co.uk/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=GB&ID=V20070822/GB/fatchi-21/8001/6393a50e-abc2-48c2-85e1-ab2ec0cea27a" type="text/javascript">

The first prototype, as shown above, was lacking in structure and sagged too much.</div><div style="text-align: left;">The strap, whilst comfortable could not be altered to suit different body sizes.</div><div style="text-align: left;">It was also suggested I added a phone pocket to the inside.</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I am quite please with them as they are bulbous and wafty.<br />
That is a total of six now!<br />
Here is a little video of my chunky arms doing some delicate clay wobbling, the video is from my phone, so its not great, but you'll get the idea:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyLI5ZTmad3O16AwB_Hg1ElPAyzEn8zEfoNSbBNTk2glVh98DoeSbrpb3aftl22k2e2uAbPoLoWy3gUR2bxqg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Yes girls, its a mini photo tour of two of my local fabric shops! <br />
Boy's - the post title is just a bit of reverse psychology, I knew you'd peak if I said you couldn't ;) cheeky!<br />
<br />
First up, <a href="http://www.simonboyd.com/Welcome_2.html">Simon Boyd</a>, home of posh curtain fabric and superior oil cloth, not the sort of place I am usually allowed in, but we threw on a twin set of pearls and graced their premises with our delightful company.<br />
We being Simone and I, who I was with under the pretense of 'buying curtain fabric'.<br />
A little story...<br />
Last year I was very ill with swine flu and pneumonia and after three weeks of being in bed only able to lay on one side and not being able to breath below my throat I was eventually taken to hospital, only for a week, but it was dismal.<br />
I did lose a stone in weight though. Hooray!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I left hospital a week before Christmas and farmboy, bless his cottons had been full on with the girls for the whole month hadn't had time to even think about Christmas.<br />
So we did a mad three hour trip to town and bought as much crap as we could carry and that was Christmas.<br />
<br />
However, being the hostess that I am I decided that a posh table cloth would make my Christmas dinner look like it had been planned to perfection months earlier and no little thing like pneumonia was going to stand in the way of my glam damn it!<br />
<br />
So I went to Simon Boyd and blow me if I didn't spend £70 on one piece of fabric, for my tablecloth.<br />
Look, it was near death moment and that's my justification ok!<br />
It is beautiful.<br />
In fact one of my friends said it looked like it had been made by elves who has now subsequently gone blind due to the level of close up skill needed to make it.<br />
Here it is all laid out for dinner:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVntLa3DpjOsqCCQ6Re8Fl1sUixzUigZ8JP9LCSIWBQ2ucdQFwuMN-D_ULO2ljaVQ_dlYwCCSlkrGHfzN8yzwskqReNRnXJCRZoZtRTk_cALpD8aJAgqCmlsdf7PuIFAA-i48FefW6bM/s1600/the+table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVntLa3DpjOsqCCQ6Re8Fl1sUixzUigZ8JP9LCSIWBQ2ucdQFwuMN-D_ULO2ljaVQ_dlYwCCSlkrGHfzN8yzwskqReNRnXJCRZoZtRTk_cALpD8aJAgqCmlsdf7PuIFAA-i48FefW6bM/s400/the+table.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Anyway, Simone though she'd have a little luxury too, until she realized that to make curtains for her lounge, in her fabric of choice (without lining, curtain tape, thread, tie backs, her time etc) would cost a mere £600.<br />
Luckily for us all I did a bit of covert snapping and now we can all pretend to shop in Mr Boyd's emporium of lush!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgN6OTnhikb9ccnGAcRJoYV-kvP2Ih28flFtV5itL_bt6BpUFu2JfQcjsohHyRixBHf6-qDum7ypiSC2tZdU0v8ZSE-hi18E8xGBCvSMjcX7BTAAeHVuOZE4YXabJs7Z_6CyTLB9zVwXg/s1600/013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgN6OTnhikb9ccnGAcRJoYV-kvP2Ih28flFtV5itL_bt6BpUFu2JfQcjsohHyRixBHf6-qDum7ypiSC2tZdU0v8ZSE-hi18E8xGBCvSMjcX7BTAAeHVuOZE4YXabJs7Z_6CyTLB9zVwXg/s400/013.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

</div>This is only half of the shop, maybe even a third.<br />
The ladies that work there are a bit scary, I didn't want to take the risk of verbal abuse so I stopped taking photo's!<br />
<br />
<br />
Next the altogether more approachable and lovely staff of <a href="http://www.watsonandthornton.co.uk/">Watson & Thornton</a> the Shrewsbury equivalent of <a href="http://www.moodfabrics.com/">Mood</a> NY ( I guess!).<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Buttons! and in those draws, Patterns!</div><br />
Again this is lest than a third of the shop, there is a whole other floor! <br />
I really have to control myself when I visit this shop, which is why I didn't take more photo's, but it was also rather lucky that I had just spent my allocated cash on some quality op shop finds:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzX60mBNoTXokWTrinpcPVqN5zanH56nGX_yEOtTn970yoiY2nYBfBDMH401WUXRnqLXIjqMnofUDDH7gxTUYr6a-8TIHkgGkaTSUhAytX6Ab20BFMaBqTeXxLNM6v7ZxY_Ffo8GT3j94/s1600/020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzX60mBNoTXokWTrinpcPVqN5zanH56nGX_yEOtTn970yoiY2nYBfBDMH401WUXRnqLXIjqMnofUDDH7gxTUYr6a-8TIHkgGkaTSUhAytX6Ab20BFMaBqTeXxLNM6v7ZxY_Ffo8GT3j94/s400/020.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">A cutter for lino printing, an awl, long nose pliers and a darning mushroom!<br />
Incidentally Simone never bought her curtain fabric and </div><div style="text-align: center;">we both resisted the charms of <a href="http://www.paperchase.co.uk/">Paperchase</a>!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Hooray for restraint!</div>Fat Chick Designhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09214384677163069621noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-369415882342068513.post-45344635304635392872010-10-21T08:17:00.023+01:002010-10-21T08:17:00.254+01:00Feast your eyesDo you remember my love of 70's fashion and interiors?<br />
Well I've taken a slight nose dive into the realms of bad 70's this week.<br />
I bought a couple of 'inspiration' books.<br />
I think this is what happens when you combine amphetamines and nylon.<br />
Some of this post is a bit 'ooh matron!' I hope I don't offend anyone.<br />
<br />
It is exactly what it says on the tin, or the cover. Mail Order Fashion Disasters.<br />

I have not been happy with the quality of my images since I opened my folksy shop and I really feel this is letting the quality of my work down.<br />
I have fiddled about with my camera settings and in the end I have come to the conclusion<br />
that it really is a case of poor lighting.<br />
<br />
I don't think I have mentioned this before, but we live in a cave.<br />
OK, so that's not totally true, but the lighting is just as crap!<br />
We actually live in a little cottage with tiny windows and low ceilings. <br />
This is ideal for chocolate boxes and twee calenders of rural Shropshire, but it is pants<br />
for indoor photography.<br />
<br />
After a little whingeing Farmboy let me buy a light tent kit and it arrived today!<br />
It cost £101 GBP which I know you probably think is quite extravagant,<br />
but blimey, what a kit you get for your money!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNZQ2g7aocYbjzhVlkKxwXxvoAZpRvWntSMKL1TKnr5qm-x5VuFB9lZjJSiBrTITSRJqjwMRo-LF-du_z5ePIXQhV9_Zz-h07qk8ehRe23Kq0vpDIC4J8qQOG6jM48nXjHfqGKDaeIDA0/s1600/011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNZQ2g7aocYbjzhVlkKxwXxvoAZpRvWntSMKL1TKnr5qm-x5VuFB9lZjJSiBrTITSRJqjwMRo-LF-du_z5ePIXQhV9_Zz-h07qk8ehRe23Kq0vpDIC4J8qQOG6jM48nXjHfqGKDaeIDA0/s320/011.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Here it is all boxed up, <br />
and below the contents of the big box are revealed...<br />
as more boxes!</div><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">... and now using a flash in 'normal' light...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjnmQNhMf6_Ur48h1E9VkqCP-Xzc6to243-DkmjO3_y2GBpqXWgQ5n4RAwlG50wD5AIitODX9m9N0lJiq6INPXt8oA_6jL2mQ1WhxKIBgvSiXg_IxgmntI-Qsw0ekEsXO2kCCCVihKygc/s1600/032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjnmQNhMf6_Ur48h1E9VkqCP-Xzc6to243-DkmjO3_y2GBpqXWgQ5n4RAwlG50wD5AIitODX9m9N0lJiq6INPXt8oA_6jL2mQ1WhxKIBgvSiXg_IxgmntI-Qsw0ekEsXO2kCCCVihKygc/s320/032.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">...finally no flash, 'normal light' with the daylight bulb on</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKFFw0Zeoe52w7RtLHEONotM95gWDo3GE48WNjhGJ11gKkcIndWiPSErFxahvBfcggpsj3ofu-aNin3JixvI62FeuhARzSp7_bBAJBHNfbmizA25IYVjVzREwHOeQbGoHOCpuqQZc_VZU/s1600/036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKFFw0Zeoe52w7RtLHEONotM95gWDo3GE48WNjhGJ11gKkcIndWiPSErFxahvBfcggpsj3ofu-aNin3JixvI62FeuhARzSp7_bBAJBHNfbmizA25IYVjVzREwHOeQbGoHOCpuqQZc_VZU/s320/036.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
This is obviously an apple, taken using the daylight bulb<br />
</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkn90btK7G_NX_lv0Hx4tuuMxcrvqjjFQMUjkrJQ2_Sv__Eou56Kot5CtQY8TjK4H6RyZ8NlfIUZl9Xh3fBQmLQd89JYEyrA0vJBejGg7aJBugQNyF2U718cJB1KhyphenhyphenypplPvnowGqVfs/s1600/028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkn90btK7G_NX_lv0Hx4tuuMxcrvqjjFQMUjkrJQ2_Sv__Eou56Kot5CtQY8TjK4H6RyZ8NlfIUZl9Xh3fBQmLQd89JYEyrA0vJBejGg7aJBugQNyF2U718cJB1KhyphenhyphenypplPvnowGqVfs/s320/028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">As I said there are three bulbs with this kit,<br />
so I reckon that the greyness will go as I add lights.<br />
I am hoping for good results!</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I will post more when I play with it properly, </div><div style="text-align: center;">but if you want one, you can buy this kit here:<a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350288898087&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT"> Photoworld51</a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">Please leave comments about your experiences with these tents!</div><div style="text-align: center;">Thank you! <br />

(Thank you <a href="http://misstracianderson.blogspot.com/">Traci</a> for pointing me to Selina's blog! xx)<br />

Cool idea huh? I think so.<br />
<br />
My partner was <a href="http://www.monpetitpoppet.blogspot.com/">Mon Petit Poppet</a>, a fabulous designer of<a href="http://www.madeit.com.au/storecatalog.asp?userid=11239"> beautiful girls clothing and dolls</a> from Australia.<br />
Her work, and her blog has a lovely Parisian twist, I love the way she puts all her post titles into French.<br />
<br />
I wanted to make her a stocking that I thought represented me as a UK sewer, but also satisfied her love of all things French.<br />
I have a secret. I will share it with you. <br />
Come closer so I can whisper in you ear - <i>I'm not a fan of Christmas fabric!</i> <br />
<br />
I am still a fan of Christmas though, as I didn't want to move away from the theme too much, just tweak it a little!<br />
I went with a basic elf boot pattern and arched it a bit more to make it more lady like.<br />
I used some lovely <a href="http://www.clarke-clarke.co.uk/index.php">Clark and Clark</a> fabric which I added a trim of feathers and topped it with a toe bell.<br />
<br />
I couldn't post about it before my lovely swap partner received it but now that she had, and loved it as much as I did, I can share it with you!<br />
<br />

Liam Carey is a master glassmaker from Cornwall who makes stunning blown glass works of art like these:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikl6JRBlOO62UsbDPX2P8sF8ocvygCSxUlLT7ptvdxdcfdpjD2NnSrW7P52V7y6toonCgHFJBuHfMRKaMEll16bdAZBkZuxzaalD83RZQCQopxbd7xXrEhpMi4FGpwjyrgKll55p6e4Yk/s1600/integrated_art_work_on_door_handlesL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikl6JRBlOO62UsbDPX2P8sF8ocvygCSxUlLT7ptvdxdcfdpjD2NnSrW7P52V7y6toonCgHFJBuHfMRKaMEll16bdAZBkZuxzaalD83RZQCQopxbd7xXrEhpMi4FGpwjyrgKll55p6e4Yk/s320/integrated_art_work_on_door_handlesL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Where it all began... <br />
At the age of 16 Liam went to work at Liskeard Glass, in Cornwall, England where he soon fell in love with the craft and art of glassmaking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1UY6MjBa5gA2eO1wWHaiCQqyEss9qnPDi1LrumTWr_AZcnf2cC9783GrOuJHRiAbdVnWQKU7xjSfZt52khn8Glu1x7fzmKLz4LhhOr7zMZxb2o4zpn7E0v264hxKxOEI05yDSgaW8IXw/s1600/brokenhill013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1UY6MjBa5gA2eO1wWHaiCQqyEss9qnPDi1LrumTWr_AZcnf2cC9783GrOuJHRiAbdVnWQKU7xjSfZt52khn8Glu1x7fzmKLz4LhhOr7zMZxb2o4zpn7E0v264hxKxOEI05yDSgaW8IXw/s320/brokenhill013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>At 21 he took the opportunity to buy the glassworks and renamed it Merlin Glass. <br />
Liam made vases, bowls, scent bottles, vessels, flowers and was watched by 1000`s of visitors from near and far, truly mesmerized by the noise, heat and smell as Liam created beautiful works of art. <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>In 1994 Liam made a prototype for Laura Ashley which was the start of his relationship with glass knobs. <br />
Liam has gone onto make 1000`s of glass knobs.<br />
<br />
Becoming a recognised master glassmaker, designing and making beautiful collections.<br />
As a designer Liam is influenced by beauty, form and function. <br />
Living in Cornwall it is surrounded by stunning coastline and rugged moorland. It is these forms that have stimulated Liams ideas and feelings. <br />
<br />
Many of his pieces reflect nature, flowers, seeds, pebbles and sky patterns. <br />
Each piece is very personal, encapsulated with Liam`s creativity. <br />
Liam has observed the colours in nature and the space between them.<br />
He likes making small, free formed pieces with subtle colours and simple patterns. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlNZElsS4OnYZBnu-DxiOqfI6be5At4kVUp1EWf-cei5qHQgcQaY3EiXeGB-kq1j1KsWYcjVsFq25m46TYCzi8-qCrp0zIYd4ZhJUs8foRYMmYYlSQho4X9E6uiWcZcLrzB62vF9kJuyI/s1600/peridot_whirl_glass_door_knob_on_brass_roseL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlNZElsS4OnYZBnu-DxiOqfI6be5At4kVUp1EWf-cei5qHQgcQaY3EiXeGB-kq1j1KsWYcjVsFq25m46TYCzi8-qCrp0zIYd4ZhJUs8foRYMmYYlSQho4X9E6uiWcZcLrzB62vF9kJuyI/s320/peridot_whirl_glass_door_knob_on_brass_roseL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>His other passion is in architecture and observing design, structure, materials and art. <br />
He is particularly interested in doors and locks which has influenced his designs for glass knobs. <br />
Making handles which are used and admired by everyday people, bringing light and beauty to the world of interiors.<br />
<br />
I have been chatting with Liam's wife Carol about his work and she told me that the love hearts are Liam's favourites.<br />
She said ' we have one of these on our front door, and it is our way of welcoming visitors into our loving home!' (I really like that they are called love handles! So much prettier than mine!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPFdLi2suRjlVsZtc05LN45xgtTOv9I8GUhFT7eb5Q9h2iKdXLbTbfWQKwvh3Kq_h0_DlziRsKrle8e17Vb2pV7mJPlwpidxH_UbcpR2PiR1Ige346t4VctwlpWfPNh1JODc4gB2Vau-A/s1600/love+handles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPFdLi2suRjlVsZtc05LN45xgtTOv9I8GUhFT7eb5Q9h2iKdXLbTbfWQKwvh3Kq_h0_DlziRsKrle8e17Vb2pV7mJPlwpidxH_UbcpR2PiR1Ige346t4VctwlpWfPNh1JODc4gB2Vau-A/s320/love+handles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>'Millefiori is also another favourite, millefiori meaning a thousand flowers, these beads are from murano and are just exquisite.'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuDdyol8Xj3FY5ftlRjWvyISuVHlJeepYQBvKDH8EvXXUhhe79dbq7C2fEP42QPVpuJQXHC_gR47qYURNtvNUakdPthbeXc2UHKL8EGEOmuJy7QrNu0ckN-u2X0ZBpF9qy14_bJTqH_4/s1600/frosted_clear_and_cobalt_blue_millefiori_glass_door_knob_on_brass_roseL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuDdyol8Xj3FY5ftlRjWvyISuVHlJeepYQBvKDH8EvXXUhhe79dbq7C2fEP42QPVpuJQXHC_gR47qYURNtvNUakdPthbeXc2UHKL8EGEOmuJy7QrNu0ckN-u2X0ZBpF9qy14_bJTqH_4/s320/frosted_clear_and_cobalt_blue_millefiori_glass_door_knob_on_brass_roseL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
'The clear smooth door knob is a real classic and most popular. <br />
People also like the colours of the amber and peridot green whirls and daisy. <br />
It is not only about the glass but also the shape as some of the shapes and indeed the textures, particularly a frosted feel adds to the experience.'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixWGy30-1koKlffHnSRxnEXS-xhPNhOPlasb-MQcy22GXscrSfJAAKr0Mw8FNUrp7QBJiLNUW21DZQAOuGpOFcmOJSYw4GJ3c6NB7oDOmVS8T5-uYsUMwu91220rPd9y-rP7CLbAo_RvY/s1600/coloured_art_whirl_glass_cupboard_knobsL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixWGy30-1koKlffHnSRxnEXS-xhPNhOPlasb-MQcy22GXscrSfJAAKr0Mw8FNUrp7QBJiLNUW21DZQAOuGpOFcmOJSYw4GJ3c6NB7oDOmVS8T5-uYsUMwu91220rPd9y-rP7CLbAo_RvY/s320/coloured_art_whirl_glass_cupboard_knobsL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
'When visitors come to our shop in Liskeard, Cornwall they love to feel them and hold them, they are very sensual. <br />
Customers which buy Liam's work want them because they appreciate their quality, the fact that they have been handmade for them, they are made to the highest standards where they are swaged on, not just glued on so the metal work is rolled over the glass guaranteeing them. <br />
We send them all over the world and the variety of homes they go into varies greatly from period homes, to farm houses, coastal villas, heritage buildings, contemporary homes etc.'<br />

I always loved pottery when I was at school, although I don't have anything to show for it.<br />
<br />
I never found a pottery I could go to for lessons until I moved to Wem.<br />
I was so excited to meet <a href="http://www.shropshireguild.co.uk/designers/jenny-foord">Jenny Foord</a> my tutor and get stuck in.<br />
<br />
My first finished item was a coiled casserole dish which I made in one session. Can you tell!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVS2lND_-eM2SsnVjnjiKPJoEuI2lGnBi3dOmPaaTirDUzx3qAVQ5urLvycNobHGW_GIqcxpG0MwxJZxLfaFMNKGnf08qLKbJNJ96RDySfRNcYnM0oiEV1rVIbz3GKaCt6I46YPb2OSNk/s1600/016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVS2lND_-eM2SsnVjnjiKPJoEuI2lGnBi3dOmPaaTirDUzx3qAVQ5urLvycNobHGW_GIqcxpG0MwxJZxLfaFMNKGnf08qLKbJNJ96RDySfRNcYnM0oiEV1rVIbz3GKaCt6I46YPb2OSNk/s320/016.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I put so much thought into it, look at all my detailing!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_83qjkHiBlfF7oGDKy2BbMgOeYDQEi2OrM6R0Ib5yajOu4Q4DHTwgtZL053NC-Hv3p_UlWvzsutsXdVtcjnTKLx2Cd6BDTPhk_boSi2e3t7GJ4wt_PL2xX8cOzG7mcOQIx_sJ3TEzlmg/s1600/019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_83qjkHiBlfF7oGDKy2BbMgOeYDQEi2OrM6R0Ib5yajOu4Q4DHTwgtZL053NC-Hv3p_UlWvzsutsXdVtcjnTKLx2Cd6BDTPhk_boSi2e3t7GJ4wt_PL2xX8cOzG7mcOQIx_sJ3TEzlmg/s320/019.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Then I moved onto mugs, thinking they would be easy, bah!<br />
Bloody handles, nightmare!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimlBGd0ZhDPdz5SLux8BEAy041a2lv_eNZuqRX1b1gIs4_bX8Eren3UsDw9guL3N-tGqSalSbUyUZq2E_ZTrHc-e08_BUkq796RrPaxYydXKCcF1wnpd3zgBxkYRwcQfMfACaUoxszTQM/s1600/025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimlBGd0ZhDPdz5SLux8BEAy041a2lv_eNZuqRX1b1gIs4_bX8Eren3UsDw9guL3N-tGqSalSbUyUZq2E_ZTrHc-e08_BUkq796RrPaxYydXKCcF1wnpd3zgBxkYRwcQfMfACaUoxszTQM/s320/025.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I quickly moved onto bigger things, like jugs!<br />
(or a gravy boat disasters - unusable)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBUU74SBhaAj7U-4-EJ05OPKI3PD6q-QlkIUg0BrSQf62Hs_1UwOWnESjcGhwJ8NNtvw1e_MaG5p1uhqIo8U3UboeJm9_3XvmNR5zDWiuT9aHV_EzNhyPpglMSlu4ips8jxNDcvmKe1WQ/s1600/028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBUU74SBhaAj7U-4-EJ05OPKI3PD6q-QlkIUg0BrSQf62Hs_1UwOWnESjcGhwJ8NNtvw1e_MaG5p1uhqIo8U3UboeJm9_3XvmNR5zDWiuT9aHV_EzNhyPpglMSlu4ips8jxNDcvmKe1WQ/s320/028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
